2014 Update: CIMMYT maize inbred lines and pre-commercial hybrids with potential resistance to maize lethal necrosis (MLN)

Since 2011 MLN has become a disease of serious concern in the east African countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and possibly Rwanda. CIMMYT has been working in close collaboration with the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), private sector partners and virology experts from the USA to combat the disease through host-controlled resistance. A CIMMYT-KARI MLN Screening Facility was established at Naivasha in September 2013, and a large array of maize germplasm is presently being evaluated against the disease under artificial inoculation. Subsequent to the development of effective protocols, CIMMYT and KARI have been conducting MLN screening trials in Kenya since 2012, to identify promising inbred lines and pre-commercial maize hybrids with resistance to MLN. This is the second update of the information on potential MLN-resistant or moderately resistant inbred lines and pre-commercial hybrids (in CIMMYT genetic backgrounds), following the first update that was shared with public and private sector partners in May 2013.

CIMMYT Southern Africa Maize Regional On-Station (Stage 4) and On-Farm (Stage 5) Trials: Results of the 2022 and 2023 Seasons and Product Announcement

New and improved maize hybrids, developed by the CIMMYT Global Maize Program, are available for uptake by public and private sector partners, especially those interested in marketing or disseminating hybrid maize seed across Southern Africa and similar agro-ecological zones. Following a rigorous trialing and a stage-gate advancement process culminating in the 2023 Stage 5 On-farm trials, CIMMYT advanced a total of three new elite maize hybrids in Southern Africa in 2023. Phenotypic data collected in Stage 4 and Stage 5 trials for the selected hybrids as well as information about the trial sites are provided in this dataset. These trials were conducted through a network of partners, including NARES and private seed companies, in Southern Africa under various management and environmental conditions.

2023 CIMMYT Maize Latin America Product Announcement / Anuncio de Productos de Maíz de CIMMYT en Latinoamérica 2023

Después de un riguroso proceso de evaluación de germoplasma en distintas etapas que culminó en ensayos de evaluación de híbridos en etapa cinco en 2022, el CIMMYT avanzó cinco nuevos híbridos élites en Latinoamérica en 2023. Datos fenotípicos recopilados en los ensayos en etapa cuatro y cinco, además de información sobre los sitios están incluidos en este conjunto de datos. Estos ensayos fueron conducidos bajo diferentes condiciones de manejo y ambientes a través de redes colaborativas con instituciones de investigación (SNIAs) pública y empresas semilleras de Latinoamérica.

Maize yield and profitability in a 5 year conservation agriculture experiment in Papaloapan, Oaxaca

The dataset contains experimental data from the San Juan Cotzocon research platform in Oaxaca, Mexico. The database contains data on maize yield, management, profitability and phenology in relation to 8 evaluated treatments. The treatments differed in tillage (disk harrow, zero tillage or permanent raised beds), residue management (removing all or leaving all), fertilization (conventional and soil analysis based) and crop rotation (monoculture maize or rotation with legume)

Replication Data for: Combination of Linkage and Association Mapping with Genomic Prediction to Infer QTL Regions Associated with Gray Leaf Spot and Northern Corn Leaf Blight Resistance in Tropical Maize

Gray Leaf Spot (GLS) and Northern Corn Leaf Blight (NCLB) are two pathogens with high genetic diversity that can reduce grain yield in infected maize plants.To identify population-based quantitative trait loci (QTL) for GLS and NCLB resistance, a biparental population and an association mapping panel were genotyped and were also phenotyped across multi-environments in western Kenya. This dataset includes the analyzed BLUES of the collected phenotypic data for Gray Leaf Spot GLS and NCLB resistance from the DH population and diversity panel, as well as the GBS genotypic data. The results of the analysis are reported in the accompanying article.

Replication Data for: Study of Post-flowering stalk rot (PFSR) pathogen species variation and possible shifts across selected maize agro-ecologies in South Asia

Maize post-flowering stalk rots (PFSR) are caused by at least six genera of fungal pathogens. They generally occur as a complex, along with secondary colonizers. PFSR are reported from all major maize growing ecologies and are expected to be exacerbated by the changing climates in Latin America, Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa, A better understanding of the prevalence and spread of the stalk rot pathogens in different maize agro ecologies in Asia could contribute to plans to reduce damage caused by PFSRs. The data presented in this study from from a collection of samples from PFSR-affected maize plant stalks in India. The samples were collected in 2022 from 19 locations. The results of the analysis of the pathogens are presented in the report present in this study and accompanying article.

Replication Data for: Genome-wide association mapping and genomic prediction of stalk rot in two mid-altitude tropical maize populations

Maize stalk rot can cause significant economic losses for maize farmers around the world. Information on the genetic architecture of maize stalk rot could help breeders design effective breeding strategies to enhance resistance to stalk rot. This dataset was used to carry out genome-wide association analysis (GWAS) and genomic prediction for stalk rot in mid-altitude tropical maize populations. It includes phenotypic data from testcross hybrids of 677 inbred lines from the Tuxpeño and non-Tuxpeño heterotic pools evaluated in three environments. Genotypic data for 200,681 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) used for GWAS and genomic prediction are also provided. The results of the analyses are described in the accompanying article.
