Data for: Postharvest grain system in Ecuador and small-scale farmers' perceptions of gender roles and postharvest loss
INIAP (Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Agropecuarias) and CIMMYT implemented a postharvest diagnostic in Ecuador to document grain production and postharvest practices among small-scale farmers in Ecuador. The survey was conducted between 2021 and 2022, to characterize production systems, identify determinants of postharvest loss, and understand gendered participation across the agricultural value chain. The dataset contains the following information: (1) General household and respondent characteristics; (2) Crop production and field management; (3) Postharvest practices and loss assessment; (4) Pest management and grain use; and (5) Gender roles in agricultural and postharvest activities. This dataset provides a comprehensive resource for analyzing postharvest loss determinants, gendered labor contributions, production constraints, and grain storage practices in Ecuador’s smallholder farming systems.
