The dataset contains experimental data from the San Juan Cotzocon research platform in Oaxaca, Mexico. The database contains data on maize yield, management, profitability and phenology in relation to 8 evaluated treatments. The treatments differed in tillage (disk harrow, zero tillage or permanent raised beds), residue management (removing all or leaving all), fertilization (conventional and soil analysis based) and crop rotation (monoculture maize or rotation with legume)
The data were collected for the publication: "Does leaving crop residues in the field lead to greater frost damage in wheat and barley under conservation agriculture?" The dataset contains data from three experiments conducted to evaluate if leaving more residue in the field is associated with higher levels of frost damage. Farmers in the Bajio had indicated that leaving more crop residue in the field when sowing barley in permanent raised beds is associated with higher frost damage, which is an occasional problem in the region. To evaluate whether this is really the case frost damage was evaluated in a 1) a 2 year on farm experiment in San Juan del Rio, Queretaro, Mexico where barley was sown with different levels of residue retention, 2) An experiment with different types of tillage and levels of residue on the Sanjaya Rajaram station in Metepec, Mexico state, Mexico, where due to the high elevation frost damage was guaranteed to occur and 3) An comparison of yield in side by side comparison of conservation agriculture and conventional agriculture grown during the winter season across Mexico to assess whether conservation agriculture is associated with lower yields which could be indicative of a real problem.
New version of maize mega environments based upon new wordlclim 2.1 data. Based on Bellon et al. 2005 https://doi.org/10.1016/j.foodpol.2005.09.003 Supersedes previous version
Gray Leaf Spot (GLS) and Northern Corn Leaf Blight (NCLB) are two pathogens with high genetic diversity that can reduce grain yield in infected maize plants. To identify population-based quantitative trait loci (QTL) for GLS and NCLB resistance, a biparental population and an association mapping panel were genotyped and were also phenotyped across multi-environments in western Kenya. This dataset includes the analyzed BLUES of the collected phenotypic data for Gray Leaf Spot GLS and NCLB resistance from the DH population and diversity panel, as well as the GBS genotypic data. The results of the analysis are reported in the accompanying article.
Maize post-flowering stalk rots (PFSR) are caused by at least six genera of fungal pathogens. They generally occur as a complex, along with secondary colonizers. PFSR are reported from all major maize growing ecologies and are expected to be exacerbated by the changing climates in Latin America, Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa, A better understanding of the prevalence and spread of the stalk rot pathogens in different maize agro ecologies in Asia could contribute to plans to reduce damage caused by PFSRs. The data presented in this study from from a collection of samples from PFSR-affected maize plant stalks in India. The samples were collected in 2022 from 19 locations. The results of the analysis of the pathogens are presented in the report present in this study and accompanying article.
Genome-wide association study was performed in a Tunisian durum wheat collection. The collection was genotyped with the wheat 90K Illumina array and phenotyped for seportia tritici blotch.
A core collection of 235 durum wheat accessions consisting mainly of landraces was genotyped and evaluated for its genetic diversity and population structure. The same collection was phenotyped for the fungal pathogen Pyrenophora triciti-repentis (cause of tan spot disease of wheat) in Tunisia to perform genome-wide association analyses. The results highlight the significance of chromosomes, 2B, 3B, 5B, and 6A as genomic regions associated with tan spot resistance.

Interspecific hybrids can be formed through allopolyploidization. Synthetic hexaploid wheats (SHW) have been created in breeding programs through the intentional crossing of tetraploid and diploid species. In this study, quantitative genetics tools developed to predict cross performance within a species were applied to predict the phenotypes of SHW for four major quantitatively inherited diseases using the data contained in this dataset. The results of the analysis are presented in the accompanying article.
Maize stalk rot can cause significant economic losses for maize farmers around the world. Information on the genetic architecture of maize stalk rot could help breeders design effective breeding strategies to enhance resistance to stalk rot. This dataset was used to carry out genome-wide association analysis (GWAS) and genomic prediction for stalk rot in mid-altitude tropical maize populations. It includes phenotypic data from testcross hybrids of 677 inbred lines from the Tuxpeño and non-Tuxpeño heterotic pools evaluated in three environments. Genotypic data for 200,681 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) used for GWAS and genomic prediction are also provided. The results of the analyses are described in the accompanying article.
